The deluge of information is on the pandemic is troubling. No part of the world is immune. All African countries are affected in varying degrees.

Delta State Government advocates childbirth spacing

The Delta State Government has reiterated its commitment to save the lives of women of reproductive age and their children, stating that it would not leave any stone unturned in its sensitization efforts on the need for Deltans to imbibe childbirth spacing.
This was the major thrust of the 3-Day training programme organized by the Delta State Ministry of Health for media personnel, social media influencers and officials in Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDA) on media advocacy for family planning in Asaba.

German minister urges Nigerians to embrace family planning

The Minister of Economic Cooperation and Development, Germany, Gerd Mueller, has advised Nigerian Parents to embrace Family Planning (FP) to promote responsible parenthood.

Mueller on Tuesday during his visit to the Nyanya General Hospital, Abuja, said FP was key in ensuring child spacing as well as promoting their access to quality education and better living condition.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that visit was part of the nationwide family campaign project of the German Federal Minister of Economic Cooperation and Development.

Dominic Uzu: We have lost maternal health champion – HAMI

The Health4All Media Initiative (HAMI) on Wednesday described the death of one of its members, Dominic Eze Uzu, 60, as “shocking” and “saddened”!
His death, according to a statement by the Secretary of the group, Sola Ojo, came at a time the HAMI was trying to intensify maternal and newborn reportage in Nigeria with a focus on rural communities in Kaduna State.
HAMI is a group of journalists cut across print, electronic and new media working on health as one of the key component of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Nigeria is working towards.

Experts harp on family planning as effective strategy against maternal mortality

To reduce maternal and child mortality, family planning has been identified as the most cost-effective means to improve the health of mothers in Nigeria.
The Zonal Coordinator, Nationwide Family Planning Campaign, Adeniji Raji made the remark at its inaugural meeting held in Lagos.
Raji said family planning helps people to have the desired number of children, which can lead to improved health of mothers and contribute to the nation’s social and economic development.

Most women don’t regret after having abortion – Study

A new research has found that most women feel ‘relieved’ and don’t ‘regret’ their decision after having an abortion.
The study, which was described by a CNN report as one of the largest to date on the topic, was published Sunday in the journal Social Science & Medicine.
Also, about 25 per cent of all pregnancies ended in an induced abortion, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO).
Researchers say there has been an assumption that women will regret having an abortion.

World Contraception Day: Experts Call For Increased Awareness To Curb Unsafe Abortion

As Nigeria joins the rest of the world to observe the World Contraception Day, experts have called for urgent action on unwanted and underage pregnancies to check the rising rate of unsafe abortion in the country.
They​ gave the warning in a statement jointly issued on Wednesday.
The Programme Director of Development Communications Network (Devcoms), Akin Jimoh, noted that the majority of young people in Nigeria are not empowered with quality information to make informed decisions about their reproductive health.

42% of women in Nigeria, others suffer abuse, stigma during childbirth

No fewer than 42 per cent of women in Ghana, Guinea, Myanmar and Nigeria, suffer physical or verbal abuse, stigma or discrimination during childbirth.
According to new evidence from a World Health Organisation (WHO)-led study, published October 9, 2019 in the journal Lancet, more than one-third of women in the four lower-income countries experienced mistreatment during childbirth in health facilities.
